The roots of Onesys (Oulu Neuronavigator System) are based in neurosurgery and neuronavigation.

The company was originally established to foster an environment of painstaking, long-term research and development as opposed to short-lived projects.

We know for a fact that goal-oriented research and development work cannot be done without singular individuals, in turn forming novel teams.
​
These kinds of teams cannot be ordained or decided on - the best you can do is give space for people to do their thing, and a concrete mission to pursue.

At Onesys we are huge fans of the Apollo Program, specifically we believe that "incremental" R&D is the only way to invent new meaningful things, as opposed to endless iteration.

We've been fortunate historically in that our patents have been cited roughly 2000 times, with our best work garnering over 700 citations as of 2024. That work, a surgical arm, was the world's first accurate surgical navigator and is the basis of many things today. Put simply, there does not exist a hospital with a neurosurgical unit, which does not directly apply inventions made by the team(s) at Onesys.

We also believe that every company must choose what to prioritize for revenue - some things must be given up for the betternment of humanity. In our case, many of the concepts around navigating in 3D space and visualization of virtual 3D objects were given freely and have become cornerstone methods for everyone active in our field.

Our work has also inspired and enabled many in industrial robotics.
